Mike McSherry is a tech entrepreneur also known as the co-founder of Xealth, a digital prescribing and analytics platform integrated into medical records and healthcare electronic.

Mike McSherry earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Business from William & Mary College in Virginia in 1990.  McSherry is married, has two boys, a dog and they’re living the busy lives of sports, travel, and parenting juggling.

Career

Mike McSherry first worked as a Lead Product Manager at Microsoft / MSN in January 1993.  McSherry then joined MSN pre ’95 launch to assist with community forums. McSherry also managed the International MSN Portal & E-commerce properties for International and moved to Australia to help set up the ninemsn JV and managed the initial ninemsn portal launch.

After working for Microsoft, McSherry co-founded Zivo Internet Services in January 1997.  McSherry helped grow the company to over 300 employees, with offices throughout Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan.  McSherry successfully sold the company for more than $20 million in 1999. McSherry then managed the Sydney office with P&L responsibility and more than 70 employees.  Zivo’s key web development clients included Intel, Microsoft, HP, ninemsn, Subaru, etc.

McSherry also co-founded and was the Product Head of Boost Mobile.  McSherry ran product for Boost both in the US and Australia. As the Product Head, McSherry negotiated key network provider deals with Optus and Nextel.  McSherry created all data pricing and value add service models, and first OTA download services for Boost Mobile. In the US, Boost is now Sprint’s prepaid service with over $5 billion in annual revenues.

Another venture that McSherry had co-founded was Amp’d Mobile.  McSherry served as the Senior Vice President of Emerging Technologies.  As Senior Vice President, McSherry was responsible in business and technology strategy for a wireless carrier, identification, and selection of key product initiatives.  McSherry negotiated and managed essential technology relationships for Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft, Verizon, etc. Amp’d Mobile had raised over $350 million before declaring bankruptcy.

McSherry was the CEO of Swype, an innovative touchscreen keyboard installed on over 1 billion tablets and smartphones, which he sold for $102.5 million to Nuance in 2011.  McSherry joined as employee #3 and expanded the company to 120. McSherry raised $14 million through 3 rounds, including Samsung/Nokia co-lead investment and signed deals with 15 of top 20 phone and tablet OEMs while building a global brand and innovative text input technology.

After the acquisition, McSherry became Nuance’s Vice President of Advertising and Content.  At Nuance, McSherry directed the team that managed Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and other early mobile voice recognition platforms using the company’s Dragon technology.  McSherry also signed business development deals with the world’s leading ad networks. Global top 10 brands launched campaigns and developed advertising business models for voice personal assistants.  

Before co-founding Xealth, McSherry was also an Entrepreneur in Residence at Providence Health and Services.  McSherry was responsible for rethinking healthcare with the backing of a 2nd largest hospital group in the country.  

Xealth

In January 2017, McSherry co-founded and currently serves as CEO of Xealth, a platform for digital health, enabling clinicians to prescribe and monitor digital tools from within the EHR workflow, along with Sundar Balasubramanian as CPO, Aaron Sheedy as COO, and Eric Fu as CTO.  At Providence St. Joseph Health, McSherry and his team incubated Xealth while he was an Entrepreneur in Residence. Xealth recently spun out Xealth from Providence and raised $9m from leading VC’s and healthcare systems.

Through the secure Xealth platform, clinicians can locate and order the appropriate digital tools and programs for patients direct from the EHR workflow, send these digital health orders to the patient’s desktop or smartphone, and then observe patient engagement and examine the results of more engaged patients.

Funding rounds

In June 2017, Xealth raised $8.5 million in a seed round of funding from its lead investor Draper Fisher Jurvetson.  Other investors include the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Providence Health and Services, Hennepin County Medical Center, and Froedtert Health.  In March 2019, Xealth raised $11 million in a Series A round of funding from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Froedtert Health, Threshold, Providence Ventures, Philips Healthcare, Novartis, and McKesson.  In June 2019, Xealth raised $3 million in another Series A round of funding from MemorialCare Innovation Fund, Cleveland Clinic, and Atrium Health.

Xealth has raised a total of $22.5 million in funding over three rounds and funded by 13 investors and competes with Spruce Health, Proteus Digital Health, and ACT.md.  Xealth has $4 million in an estimated revenue annually.
