Geoff Ramsey is the co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of eMarketer, a market research company that provides insights and trends related to digital marketing, media and commerce.

Education

Geoff Ramsey graduated high school from East Lansing High School in 1976. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the New York University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management in 1981.

Career

Before founding eMarketer, and serving as its CEO, Ramsey spent the first 17 years of his career in advertising, where he worked at several large New York advertising agencies, including NW Ayer & Partners, TBWA, and Ogilvy & Mather.  Ramsey used his research skills and strategic marketing to help create marketing and advertising successes for multinational firms such as Kraft General Foods, Procter & Gamble, M&M Mars, and AT&T.

eMarketer

Geoff Ramsey co-founded eMarketer, a 93%-owned supplementary market research company that gives insights and trends associated with commerce, media, and digital marketing, along with Sam Alfstad and Terry Chabrowe in 1996.  Ramsey has been the Chairman since July 2012 and served as Chief Executive Officer of eMarketer Inc. from January 2001 to July 2012.

Founding rounds

In January 2012, eMarketer raised $25 million in a venture round from its lead investor Stripes Group. In June 2016, German publishing giant Axel Springer, a media company involved in publishing magazines, newspapers, and digital sales channels, acquired 93% of the eMarketer’s share for $242 million.  The rest of the shares remained with the company’s founders and management.

In March 2018, eMarketer announced the new addition of its analyst team, Andrew Lipsman, ComScore’s former senior vice president of marketing and insights, to serve as the company’s principal analyst covering retail and e-commerce.  In April 2018, eMarketer appointed Ann Marie Kerwin, an expert of the news business for 20 years, as head of content strategy and executive editor for its flagship product, eMarketer PRO.

In December 2018, eMarketer featured iQuanti, a data-driven digital marketing and enterprise SEO agency that uses analytics and proprietary models to produce high-performance marketing programs, in its Report on Dynamic Creative and Digital Storytelling.

In March 2019, eMarketer announced the introduction of PRO View, a new user experience that generates the company’s global marketing forecasts and analysis into a single, fused view to support clients to analyze, benchmark, and evaluates across markets more easily. 

In June 2019, Axel Springer announced the merging between Insider Inc., the publisher of Business Insider, Insider, and Markets Insider, and eMarketer in 2020 in an attempt to strengthen the business-to-business digital research and intelligence services that the two companies provide.

eMarketer has $22.1 million estimated revenue annually.  eMarketer competes with Act-On Software, Maxymiser, and Salesfusion.

Recognition

In 2011, at the ad:tech conference in San Francisco, Ramsey received an Industry Achievement Award, which acknowledges individuals in the digital marketing space, who have exhibited consistent outstanding service, generated breakthrough ideas and promoted industry growth.  Ramsey’s book has received significant praise from industry leaders, entitled Digital Impact: The Two Secrets to Online Marketing Success (Wiley, 2011). The book is co-authored by Vipin Mayar, the EVP of McCann Worldwide.
